Title: | Modulations of voltage-dependent ion channels by extracellular signals |
Creators Name: | Rosenthal, W. and Schultz, G. |
Abstract: | In many instances, activation of cell surface receptors by extracellular signals causes modulation of ion channel activity. Walter Rosenthal and Guenter Schultz describe how signals produced by activated receptors are eventually conferred to their targets, i.e. peptides constituting ion channels. They propose that altered ion channel activity is accomplished by three different mechanisms; interaction of intracellular signal molecules with ion channels, protein phosphorylation stimulated by intracellular messengers and membrane-confined interactions of G proteins with ion channels. |
